4 Days Murchison Falls and Chimpanzee Tracking Safari

Trip Overview.

Add a 4 days Murchison Falls and chimpanzee tracking safari to your bucket list. It will be that part of the year to explore Uganda’s largest and oldest national park. The park is located about 305kms from the capital city Kampala and home to the world’s most powerful waterfall; Murchison falls.

The chimpanzee tracking is done at Budongo forest which is at the boundary of the park with some of the oldest Mahogany trees in the world. 4 of the big 5 mammals namely lions, leopards, buffalos, and elephants call this home and can be spotted during the game drive session in the northern part of the park during the game drive. You will also have an encounter with the rhinos while on a tracking session at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary in Nakasongola. The trip starts and ends at Entebbe International Airport.

Detailed Trip.

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls NP – Rhino trekking enroute.

From the airport or at the hotel, our driver guide will be happy to pick you up for a transfer to Murchison falls national park. The journey time is 5-6 hours, plus an hour of Rhino tracking at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary? Next stop is for lunch in Masindi town, before proceeding to your lodge for check-in, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Game drive and Boat Cruise

At 6am, set off for a 3-4 hours’ game drive experience in the open savannah grassland, guided by an expert ranger guide who will happily explain and answer questions of the different animals, birds, plants and scenery in the wild. Whereas there is no assurance of what will come your way, there is a lot to lookout for, notably lions, leopards, African elephants, Cape Buffalos, warthogs, giraffes, crested cranes, egrets, Egyptian geese, and more. After game drive, there will be bush breakfast in the wilderness.

Return to the lodge for lunch, and then in the afternoon hours, go for a boat cruise to the bottom of the most powerful waterfalls on earth. River Nile is home to giant Nile crocodile, Hippos and several aquatic birds.

At a point, you will have the best view of the deafening waterfall squeezing through a 7mtr gorge to the Nile. You will take photos and videos, hike to the top of the falls for a close look at the water. End the day with dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking in Budongo forest

Begin your day with a lip-smacking breakfast meal at the lodge. Thereafter, transfer for a pretrekking briefing, which takes about 30 mins. The ranger guides explain the trekking dos and don’ts, their unique character and social life. As you pay attention watching these relatives, some of the observations you get to see is the resemblance of their fingernails, unique sounds, and imitating nature.

The trekking session lasts for about 1-4 hours, with chances of watching other primates such as the greychecked monkeys, vervet monkeys, white and black colobus monkeys and many more such as the birds and different plant species. You have one hour of taking photos and notes of the resemblance of man and chimps. Afterwards, you will return to the lodge for lunch and spend the evening nature walk.

Day 4: Departure

Wakeup to a mouthwatering breakfast meal at the lodge, and thereafter, depart to Entebbe international airport for your flight to the next destination. Depending on the time of your flight, we can arrange a city tour around Kampala
