Elderly Care Program
While HADC’s current programs focus on child sponsorship, sports outreach, talent development and evangelism, the nonprofit organization is set to establish an elderly care program in later years. This will be specifically aimed at building homes for the elderly. Over 1.5 million people in Uganda are aged 60 years and above. Unfortunately, many of them continue to face poverty, limited access to health care and isolation. Elderly individuals in rural areas like Namawojjolo especially widows and those outliving their children as a result of HIV/AIDS, often have limited access to housing and proper support. Traditional family care systems are vanishing hence leaving seniors vulnerable.
The elderly care initiative at HADC Namawojjolo would focus on constructing simple Homes of Hope, durable and genuine homes meant for seniors, built on their own land or that donated by the community. Each home costs about $2,000 to $3,000 USD and would include basic space like a bedroom, living room and sanitation rooms. The program would also offer extreme services to ensure well-being and dignity.
Under housing construction, 5 to 10 homes would be built annually while prioritizing widowed women, dependents, elderly and abandoned men. There’s also a need to partner with local clinics for regular checkups of the elderly, nutritional support, malaria treatment and addressing malnutrition.
