Safari Overview
The 3 Days Mgahinga gorilla trek is one of the best short Uganda gorilla tours. It includes gorilla trekking in Mgahinga National Park and the focus will be to explore the Nyakagezi group. The trek with Nyakagezi group starts at Ntebeko and the park ranger guide will be present to accompany you. The general focus will be to explore in depth how mountain gorillas behave and taking pictures, etc.
Mgahinga is one of the 4 parks in Africa where you can encounter the rare mountain gorillas. The park occupies the smallest area of about 33.7 sq. km and holds more than gorillas. Mgahinga National Park is also popular for its numerous wildlife such as bush pigs, elephants, l’hoest monkeys, buffaloes, l’hoest monkeys, golden monkeys, and colobus monkeys.
Mgahinga also protects a diversity of birds such as the blue-headed coucal, Kivu ground thrush, African paradise flycatchers, Dusky Crimsonwing, pin-tailed whydah, Rwenzori turacos, handsome francolin, Rwenzori nightjars, red-throated alethe and more.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga National Park in Kisoro
Have an early breakfast at the hotel in Entebbe City and then meet your professional Uganda safari guide/driver. Get a short briefing about the 3-day Mgahinga gorilla trek tour in Uganda and what you should expect on today’s journey. Leave Entebbe for Mgahinga Gorilla National Park which is set in Kisoro. Getting to Mgahinga involves driving along the Kampala-Mbarara-Kisoro route for 9-10 hours but en route, expect to have a stopover at the Equator around Kayabwe.
Enjoy adequate time at the Kayabwe Equator crossing where you will take pictures or perform the popular water experiment. Continue up to Igongo Cultural Center for you to be served lunch and if you have time, you can proceed to the museum. Set out of Igongo for you to continue to Mgahinga National Park. Along the Kigezi region, feel free to appreciate the charming countryside and its rolling hills. On arrival at the park, you will check in at the lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking starting at Ntebeko
Enjoy a delicious cup of tea/coffee at leisure and later, assemble at the Ntebeko where you will get the park official. The park official will take you on the details of the guidelines/safety measures to which everyone on a gorilla trek must adhere. The gorilla trekking adventure will go for 2-6 hours which is inclusive of 1 hour for up close and personal encounters with the Nyakagezi group.
Expect to explore more about the mountain gorillas, and their unique behaviors and take photos. Return from the lush Mgahinga jungle to chill at the lodge.
Day 3: Depart for Kampala or Entebbe
At leisure, you will be provided a hefty breakfast at the lodge. After breakfast, you will depart from Mgahinga to Kampala/Entebbe. The journey to Entebbe or Kampala will include an en-route lunch break.
